"A New Art Form" - Tom Bergeron (on WBZ-TV Boston) Host of Hollywood Squares
Candace Forgeá's mosaic creations range from realism to impressionism, from contemporary scenes to mythology. This multi-talented Artist takes random pieces of broken glass and renders a famous face or a rose petal as readily as she creates a lion's paw.
With the mosaic Candace Forgeá expresses motion and emotion, idea and detail, with such vitality that she is frequently and spontaneously compared - by both casual and professional viewer - to masters like Tiffany and Monet.
Indeed, upon first observation of a Forgeá mosaic it is obvious that the Artist is totally committed to this medium: each mosaic reflects her love for, and connection to, the stained glass with which she gives life to breathtaking works of art, with appraisals up to $45,000 for Tiffany, Man of Glass.
"It takes all day (or night) . . . for several months!"
The Artist's productivity is remarkable. The Peacock Window and Peaceable Kingdom, for instance, each required nearly a thousand hours from concept to framing. They are typical of this labor/time intensive art form.
The investment in creativity "is worth every minute", according to the Artist, because the mosaic is notable for its durability. "Many of the most ancient art treasures are mosaics," says Candace Forgeá. "I like the idea of my work being around a long time."
Candace Forgeá has produced in virtually every artistic medium - oil, watercolor, pencil, sculpture, stained glass, quilts and miniature creations, too, for doll-house collectors. But the mosaic is her favorite. "For creative expression, this is the most rewarding, the most satisfying, outlet for me."
